Is Roleplaying Just for Geeks?

I am a self proclaimed role-player. I love playing paper and pencil RPGs and frankly, I got aroused during it too at times. In fact, a lot of people find that to add a bit of spice to the bedroom, roleplaying does the job quite handily. So, if you haven’t slapped on the old imagination cap since you were seven, why should you take on a new personality for a while? What can it do for your sex life?

Roleplaying allows you to do a number of things, but primarily, it lets you step out of your own skin and into the skin of a fictional character who shares your more deeply held traits. Whether it’s the lusty bar wench or the naughty stripper girl, you’re able to let loose your imagination without fear of being ridiculed. A lot of people only do it the one time, in their bedroom, or act out the scene just beforehand and then get to the main event, but if both partners are creative enough, you can create entire fictional personas with their own lives and issues. When you add this layer, you get the excitement of the early part of the relationship all over again which adds a lot of arousal and spice to the relationship, especially one that has gone stagnant.

Roleplaying also allows you to explore other aspects of your sex life that you may not have done before. Perhaps you yourself would never consider oral sex, but in the skin of another character, that changes. Maybe you feel brave enough behind the mask of Emerald the Pole Dancer to do a stripper dance in front of your man. Whatever your fantasies are, a good character mask can make it much easier for you to follow through on them. Roleplaying also allows men and women who have thought of being with someone else for a night, to be with someone else while still being with their husband or wife. (And yes, I know, for some people this is just too creepy, but for others, it allows them to indulge in their less than monogamous feelings without hurting anyone).

Finally, you can’t roleplay without props! Ever wanted to try bondage but were too scared? Bring out the Dominatrix! Or maybe you just want to try that vibrator, but you were too embarrassed. Well, as another person, you may feel braver.

Roleplaying simply allows you to put a bit of mental distance between yourself and your inhibitions without the use of alcohol. It can make you braver, more likely to try things or simply feel as though you’re rediscovering your partner all over again. Let loose your creativity and give roleplaying a try! You will be pleasantly surprised at what it can do for you.
